Suwasetha Nutrition Centre for Infants, Moratuwa

The year 1976 marked a significant milestone for Sarvodaya as we inaugurated our very first center dedicated to providing residential care. The Center for Infant Care was established with the noble purpose of nurturing children aged 0-3 years who have been left uncared for and often undernourished, as recommended by the Department of Probation and Child Care and the Judicial system. These infants, representing some of the most helpless and underprivileged members of our society, receive vital support and care.

At the Center for Infant Care, we prioritize the health and well-being of these young lives. Our dedicated staff, comprising the Housemother, Assistants, and Health workers, work tirelessly to ensure that the infants are provided with protection and care, delivering an efficient service process. We collaborate with government doctors, Volunteer Doctors, Public Health Medical Officers, and Family Health Officers, who extend their expertise to support our mission.

Over the past two years, the center has gained both local and international recognition through its dedicated Facebook page, attracting support in various forms. Generous donations have poured in, including milk, essential food items, common medicines, sanitary requisites, and toys. These contributions have not only enhanced the lives of the infants in our care but also exemplify the power of collective goodwill.

The Center for Infant Care stands as a testament to our enduring commitment to caring for the most vulnerable members of our society, ensuring that even the youngest among us have the opportunity to thrive and grow in a safe and nurturing environment.

Our mission is to provide safe care to young children with love, kindness, affection, provide opportunities for education and development of abilities, hone children’s values and cultural values and include working people in the society.

Age from birth in this center. 20 very young children up to 03 are receiving residential care. 10 staff including wardens are employed to take them. They look after all the needs of their children and support them in all matters including safety, nutrition, health and hygiene.

The Department of Probation and Child Care Services pays for one child in care at this center as maintenance assistance, and I expect that the food, education, health and housing needs of those children are not required.

Under this system that we implemented to provide food for children, the expenses for one meal are loaded with the help of several people.
