Ma sevana Child Development Centre, Lunawa

Established on March 2, 2001, the Sarvodaya Suwasetha Masevana Child Development Centre has been a haven for 36 single child mothers and their 34 babies over the past year. This center aims to provide the love, acceptance, and protection that these vulnerable victims of various social injustices have been deprived of in their family environments and the country’s educational institutions.

Our efforts focus on empowering these young mothers physically, mentally, spiritually, and educationally. We provide non-formal education for mothers who had dropped out of the formal system, and for those who qualify to continue their education, we facilitate transfers to homes in other areas through court requests.

In the last year, we conducted five Placement Committee meetings with probation officers, making important decisions regarding reintegration and other matters.

Suwasetha has launched the following programmes to empower the child mothers physically, mentally, spiritually, and educationally.
  • To empower child mothers, we have launched several programs, including the official opening of the ‘Sip Sevana’ building on March 31, 2023, by Mrs. Neetha Ariyaratne and Mrs. Samanmali Rathnayake, the President and General Secretary of Sarvodaya Suwasetha, respectively.
  • We organized classes parallel to regular school activities, conducted by experienced teachers. In the previous year, one child mother successfully sat the GCE Ordinary Level examination, and another child mother achieved commendable results in the GCE Advanced Level examination.

Moratuwa, Lunawa, no. Sarvodaya Suvasetha Masewana Child Development Center located at 49 was registered under the Western Provincial Probation and Child Care Services Department on 02.03.2001 for girls who became pregnant after being sexually abused.

Due to the pursuit of money by many people in society, the values and values that we have protected are rapidly disappearing through the society.

Based on this situation, we are running the Sarvodaya Suvasetha Masewana Children’s Development Center without provincial decision to provide protection and care to girls who are pregnant due to torture, molestation and abuse.

We intend to provide safe care to these girls with love, kindness and affection, develop educational opportunities, provide opportunities for developing skills and abilities, sharpen children’s values and cultural values and make them into a group of useful people for society.

In this centre, the age Between 12 – 18, 20 girls and their infants are receiving residential care. To take care of them, 04 staff including wardens are employed.

Under this system that we implemented to provide food for children, the expenses for one meal are loaded with the help of several people.
