Suwasetha Vocational Training Center for young females is operated with the assistance of the Department of Social Services. The following residential training programmes are conducted for 25 females between the ages of 16 to 35 years who are afflicted with physical disabilities, speech disabilities and deafness.
These trainees are provided free food, accommodation and are given two days per week music lessons, training in crochet and are also provided with library facilities.
Vocational Training is given in the following areas:
- Scientific dress making: This is a 2 year training programme. Persons who have completed their training are given a sewing machine and a sewing kit each at the end of the training period.
- Juki Machine training: This is a 9 month training programme and those who have completed the training are provided with employment.
- Stenography, typing and computer literacy: This is a 2 year training programme that includes 6 months on the job training in offices. Those who complete this programme are quite successful in obtaining employment in the private and public sector.
Vocational Training facility in Moratuwa is provided to the girls at the Home who have completed their schooling.
