Foundation laying ceremony for a play ground at Vidulipura in Norton Bridge… Back

A historic occasion was enacted when a playground project got under way in Norton Bridge with generous donations received from Bodegraven link up programme of Netherlands. This project has a unique significance in the context of the present day ethnic disharmony magnified out of proportion, the inauguration ceremony was conducted by Buddhist and Hindu priests in a multi religious ceremony.

This story begins with the Ganapathi Maha Vidyalaya, a Tamil school along side a Sinhalese school named Vidulipura Maha Vidyalaya, the two schools situated side by side with only a space for a playground in the centre sharing it in great harmony, unity and peace.

When the Netherlands donors visited the Sarvodaya Suwasetha girls home situated at Norton Bridge above the two schools in a picturesque surrounding over looking the Norton bridge dam, they immediately realized how important it was to improve this play ground since the children in the home attended both the schools, We at Sarvodaya Suwasetha agreed to team up with them.

The architectural plans were drawn by Engineer Elroy Fernando and it was to be called “A Play Ground for Peace

This playground when completed will be a living symbol of harmony and peace and we take this opportunity to thank the donors of Netherlands, the Principals of the two Schools, staff and not forgetting the contractor who was agreeable to the many suggestions made to reduce the cost to two million rupees.
