Sri Lanka is a wonderful place to holiday. The countryside is hugely varied, the people welcoming. Every town is a seething mass of saris, sarongs, bicycles, tuk-tuks, lorries, buses, blaring loudspeakers and open shop-fronts selling everything from cheap clothing to dried fish-heads. It is India without the hassle, glorious beaches, plenty of elephants, monkeys and temples, a smiling greeting (every child under 10 seems to be addressed as “baby”) and fantastic food (I had curry for breakfast, lunch and dinner).
‘Jewel in Sri Lanka’s crown’, Jeremy Paxman. |
Mr. Jeremy Paxman, a renowned British television Journalists and Broadcaster visited Sri Lanka earlier this year to research a travel feature on Galle, Sri Lanka for UK's prestigious “The Times” Newspaper.
The fee Mr. Paxman received for the article has been donated to support orphaned babies and young children in Sri Lanka. Mr. Paxman's donation, via Suwawetha's Master Trust scheme, will be used to provide a long-term support line for milk supplies for the malnourished babies at the Sarvodaya Suwasetha Nutrition Centre in Moratuwa.
